The goal of search engine optimization (SEO) is to leave few landings to chance. The content of the page and/or links to the page are optimized for very specific, carefully researched keywords and phrases. Those keywords and phrases that are of most value for “organic” or “natural” search engine optimization are those most likely to be used by prospective customers in their search engines. Google Analytics: Free web statistics analysis software that assists you in making search engine optimization decisions, investment assessments and messaging goals. 

XML Sitemap: A file on your website that will help google and others find your content easily, increase your overall site size in the eyes of google resulting in site moving up in google’s search engine results. 

Landing Page: a landing page is the page that appears when a potential customer clicks on an advertisement or a search-engine result link. The page will usually display content that is a logical extension of the advertisement or link, and that is optimized to feature specific keywords or phrases for indexing by search engines.

Google Dance: Google dance refers to the period of time when Google indices are tuned. This will often cause both a fluctuation in index size as well a significant change in a web site’s search result position.

Google Trends: a tool from Google Labs that shows the most popularly searched terms from the beginning of 2004 to now.

Key Word Utilities: research tools which give insight to which keywords work and which do not evaluating similar sites keywords, similar sites are defined by google search results. 

Site Content Count: use site:www.spn.org.  Look at the  ”Results 1 - 10 of about 2,320 from www.spn.org. (0.18 seconds)” 

Known Inbound Links: Use link:www.spn.org ” Results 1 - 10 of about 392 linking to www.spn.org. (0.11 seconds)”  392 is the total known inbound links to your side, through the eyes of google. 

Similar sites: The websites google sees as offering similar content.  related:www.spn.org
